| Adolf Hitler, a man considered by many as the embodiment of evil, was the German Chancellor in 1933 and Fuhrer from 1934 to 1945. He was the leader of NAZI, the National Socialist German Workers Party. Born in Austria-Hungary on 20th April 1889, as the fourth child in a family of six children, Adolf Hitler enjoyed painting, writing and activism. His father, Alois Hitler was a customs official. His mother was Alois’ third wife.
His name, Adolf came from the Old High German meaning ‘noble wolf’ by which he was referred to only by friends until the fall of the Third Reich. Adolf Hitler’s turning point in politics came during the Great Depression in 1930. As an underground activist, Hitler was opposed to the conservatives. In 1932, he was appointed an administrator in the Nazi party which sparked his career in real politics.
Adolf Hitler gained power with the Nazi after World War 1 during a period of crisis in Germany. Using charisma in speech and propaganda, he emphasized nationalism and anti Semitism. His party restructured Germany, rearmed the military triggering World War 2 by invading Poland. Under Adolf Hitler, the world witnessed destruction and the death of tens of millions including 6 million Jews in the Holocaust. His Nazi party was defeated by the Allies which saw the end of World War 2. Just before the end of the war, as Berlin was overrun by the Soviet Union’s Red Army, Hitler and his new wife Eva committed suicide.
